Voice Communication

The SIAMnet supports the conventional two-way voice radio equipment, such as portable, mobile and repeaters operating in the 800 Mhz band.

Repeaters are used to broadcast voice messages received from a single user to all users inside the mine. The SIAMnet is compatible with all repeaters and portable radios manufactured by major telecommunication companies (Motorola, Kenwood, Tait, etc.)

Two-way radio

The two way radio technology provides the most efficient communication between users and groups of users.  Features like "Call Alert", "Talkgroup Scan", "Private Conversation", " Noise reduction microphone" and "Telephone interconnect capability" are among the most popular.

The two way radios have an ergonomic design, an easy to read LCD displays and large keypads to make them easier to handle and simpler to operate.

These compact, rugged and powerful radio ensures users are in constant communication with each-other.

A voice system may also be designed using or a more powerful trunking system. The trunking system provides privacy, group calling and emergency calls while optimizing the channel usage. A trunking system also minimizes the number of repeaters to be installed.

Conventional systems have been popular up to now but trunking advantages are acquiring more and more interest, allowing the modular, ungradable and integrated SIAMnet technology to be an even more attractive solution for the new underground mine.

For the mining customer, where effective and private communications are a vital part of everyday operation, a two-way trunking radio system provides the coverage, channel efficiency, security and flexibility they need.

Due to its flexibility, a trunking system can grow with your operation and accommodate an increasing number of users. Two-way trunking radio system

A dedicated repeater (voice channel) and an interconnect unit may be used to allow communication with the outside world via the public telephone network.

Crossband repeaters may be installed to allow existing VHF/UHF communication systems to communicate with SIAMnet users.

A typical conventional installation includes three repeaters (voice channels) on a basic SIAMnet, which are dedicated to the mine Operation user group, the Maintenance user group and emergencies (security) which can also be used to call outside the mine via the telephone network.

It is important to note that the portable radios (walkie talkie) must be equipped with keypads in order to be able to dial the telephone number of the other party.
